The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has stated that fair-share fee payments by large over-the-top (OTT) players to telecom operators will improve consumer experience and network quality without violating net neutrality. COAI represents telecom operators such as Vodafone, Reliance Jio, and Bharti Airtel. The statement comes in response to claims by the Broadband India Forum (BIF) that such charges and the government's intent to impose licensing frameworks on OTTs would violate net neutrality principles. COAI proposes exemptions for startups and small enterprises within the OTT ecosystem. They argue that fair-share charges are meant to ensure sustainability and relieve pressure on consumer prices.
